The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari

The Monk who sold his Ferrari is an inspirational fable written by Robin Sharma. The book is mostly the interactions of Julian Mantle, the central character of the book- who is a litigator-turned-sage and his litigator friend, who is the narrator.
Julian Mantle, a successful lawyer after suffering a heart attack decides to go to India, a “mystical land”, and then decides to climb the Himalayas to find the “mystical saints” with “ancient knowledge”. The first 50 pages makes you feel the book is simply written to boast about ancient Indian culture.
But it is worth the read once Julian Mantle starts to share his wisdom he got from the sages to the narrator. Robin has made up a short story to make you remember his major points so you will remember the overall outline of the book.
- His first point is about keeping your mind clean from bad thoughts. He lists 3 different techniques to master the mind.
- His second point is about having goals, big and small. He lists different techniques like writing them down, public pledging to achieve them.
- Third point is self-improvement and courage. Identifying weakness and overcoming fear. He has 10 rituals for radiant living.
- Next is about willpower.
- He then lists his next point of time management.
- Penultimate point is about contributing to society.
- The final point is to enjoy the path and not the goal.
Though personally, I was not impressed by his storyline, you will definitely have some takeaways from this book and they can help you to be better if not best. Ignoring the “ancient mysterious land”, “ancient sages” and author promoting a vegetarian diet, it’s a good book.
